Remember me when I am gone away,
Gone far away into the silent land;
When you can no more hold my me by the hand,
Nor I half turn to go yet turning to stay.
Remember me when no more the day by day
You tell me of the future that you planned:
Only remember me; you understand
It will be late to counsel then or pray.
Yet if you should forget me for a while
And afterwards remember, do not grieve:
For if the darkness and corruption leave
A vestige of the thoughts that once I had,
Better by far you should forget and smile
Than you should remember and be sad…..
C.G ROSSETTI
One of Mums favourite poems. I found it marked out for me in an old poetry book she gave me in 1995. The book was small and old and titled The GOLDEN TREASURY of the best songs and Lyrical poems in the English language. I didn’t open it for many years as it was placed on the book self with my collection of other books.
One day I flipped through it and found a piece of paper cut out from; TRUE CONFESSIONS, September 1967. It was nicely folded in half and it contained a small pray…My Moment with God. On this same piece of old yellowed paper so neatly cut was my mothers hand writing……..
These are my favourite poems,
How do I love thee, page 336
Remember Me, page 451
The Slaves Dream, page 337
MUM AT 80…..3 years today we said goodbye. I remember you with much love, affection and gratefulness.
Yes wonderful memories of fun, laughter, love and at times overwhelming grief still lingers on for words unspoken and a story untold……..
