Well, the time has come after years and years of procrastination. Why has it taken so long?
I really dislike writing or is it typing, or is it spelling and grammar? I can sit down with another human and talk, discuss, compare, argue, debate, LISTEN and be open to many many points of view.
When it comes to sharing the written word I go to pieces and get all tense inside and fearful. Yes, that’s it fearful, it won’t sound right or it won’t be perfect, the bloody comma will be in the wrong place and so it goes on inside my head…
When I was looking for an image for my first post I found this one of a young brown pelican learning how to dive into the water – headfirst she went in, so that’s me headfirst I go into the deep deep waters of the unknown. I watched this pelican for about 2 hours whilst I was on San Cristobal Island in Ecuador. It was a special moment and one of pure joy to be an observer with a camera in hand…
The pelican didn’t mind how many mistakes it made as it tried to dive and land on the water without tipping over, it kept on trying, at the same time bringing a sense of fun and laughter to the onlookers.
This was my first ever big photography trip as a budding photographer and this is where I will start my BLOG diving in like the young pelican full of enthusiasm and hoping to not drown in the technology of it all…
I’m not sure where to start as I’ve been too busy procrastinating …
It’s taken me 3 months to get to this stage, or perhaps more likely 3 years as this is how long I’ve been procrastinating about having a blog, and a place to share my images; and I ask myself why? Why has it taken so long?
Why? Because I actually detest sitting in front of a computer.
I find it difficult to sit very long and type words that are readable and intelligible to others, to sort thoughts that come from my chaotic mind.
Unlike when I go out into nature and can spend hours looking at a snail sliding up a rock waiting for just the right moment when the light and the snail are in exactly the right position, and CLICK, the moment is caught.
Is it because humans were never really born to be sitting in front of computers, hours on end, bent over, fingers aching, updating eye glasses constantly to better see a pixelated screen as a means of communication?
I know where I feel best and it’s out amongst the trees, the birds, the wild, big skies and starry nights.
Procrastination – such a huge topic, such a big word for something called fear. Fear because I didn’t pay attention in English classes to the construction of sentences, full stops and commas, punctuation, etc.
Fear that my thoughts and ideas may not meet the mainstream and be considered radical and out there. But I’ve long got past that fear and it’s only when it comes to putting it in written word for all the world to see that it resurfaces.
As this website is about to go live, for me it’s not about how many people read it, it’s about me facing the fear, staring it right down and expressing my creativity in another medium, through the written word and my images.
Now more than ever in the new world order is the time to dig deep into who we are as individuals and as a community.
Creating images from the soul that reflect my deepest desires and dreams is what I’ll be sharing, and if this website/blog helps others find joy and power in creativity then my procrastination will have been worth the angst.
